More Than Three Decades of Healthcare Service<\/h3>

Hanano Specialist Hospital (HSH)<\/strong> has been part of Somalia’s healthcare landscape for more than three decades. Established in 1993<\/strong>, Hanano was founded with a commitment to providing essential healthcare services to communities in Mogadishu and supporting people who faced barriers to accessing quality medical care.<\/p>

Over the years, Hanano has evolved alongside the changing healthcare needs of Mogadishu. In 2008<\/strong>, the hospital was rebuilt at its current location in KM4, Mogadishu<\/strong>, creating a stronger platform for the delivery of primary, secondary and specialized healthcare services.<\/p>

Since then, Hanano has continued to expand its clinical services and develop its capacity in areas including maternal and child health, emergency care, general medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, laboratory diagnostics, imaging and inpatient care<\/strong>.<\/p>

A History of Serving Vulnerable Communities<\/h3>

An important part of Hanano’s history has been its engagement in humanitarian healthcare. The hospital has worked with humanitarian and international partners to provide healthcare services to vulnerable populations in Mogadishu.<\/p>

Hanano has had a longstanding partnership with UNHCR<\/strong>, providing primary and referral healthcare services to refugees and asylum-seekers in Mogadishu. UNHCR records specifically identify Hanano as a health partner providing primary and secondary healthcare to refugees and asylum-seekers in Mogadishu.<\/p>

UNHCR’s partnership records also document Hanano Medical Center as a national NGO partner for the provision of primary and referral health services to refugees in South Central Somalia<\/strong>, with a reported programme budget of USD 500,000 in 2023<\/strong>. UNHCR<\/a><\/p>

During this period, Hanano contributed not only to routine healthcare but also to humanitarian health responses. For example, UNHCR documented Hanano’s distribution of COVID-19 personal protective equipment to 1,228 refugees and asylum-seekers<\/strong> in Mogadishu in 2022. UNHCR Data Portal<\/a><\/p>

This experience strengthened Hanano’s ability to work with vulnerable populations, respond to humanitarian health needs and coordinate healthcare services within partnership-based programmes.<\/p>

Continuing the Journey<\/h3>

Throughout its history, Hanano has remained focused on providing healthcare that is accessible to the communities it serves. The hospital has continued to develop its clinical services, infrastructure and diagnostic capacity while maintaining a strong focus on maternal and child health, emergency care and essential medical services.<\/p>

Today, Hanano Specialist Hospital is entering a new phase of institutional development. The hospital is investing in the rehabilitation of its facilities, strengthening medical equipment and diagnostic services, improving clinical readiness and expanding its capacity to provide safe and reliable patient-centered care.<\/p>
